2019: Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club is pleased to partner with the Glen Cove Arts Council Victoria Crosby, founder of  has announced a poetry contest to celebrate April as poetry month, and Glen Cove 350. The contests is open to students in Glen Cove Elementary Schools, Middle and High Schools.

Writers are ask to write about “ What I like Best about Glen Cove ” in any style of poetry, and no entrance fee. Poems will be chosen by Victoria Crosby, GCAC president and Glen Cove’s poet laureate, and the board members of GCAC.

Fine Arts Members will learn about the Elements of Art (line, shape, form, texture, color) and the Principles of Design (perspective, symmetry, repetition, scale, contrast, movement) through observation, discussion and creation. Members will be exposed to artists and works of art, and exercise reflection, analysis, and identification of the elements of art that they have learned about. This program will also encourage Club members to create pieces suitable for submission for the National Fine Arts Exhibit contest through the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Drama Matters

Members explore the art of drama by encouraging members to express themselves creatively, from costumes to set design or directing. This program will build self-confidence, creativity and inspirations through exploring the different forms of the arts.

Junior Arts

Members engage in art activities including building objects from recycled materials and found objects. Additionally, members  participate in games and challenges that utilize drawing abilities and art materials, with a focus more on fun than on instruction. Members will also have opportunities to create holiday and seasonal crafts projects in this program.

Free Expression

Club members will be introduced to modern and contemporary works of art and be encouraged to explore new materials and create their own unique art works. The main focus of this program will be on creativity, exploration of new materials, and developing art skills and techniques.
