SYE's Make Summer Fun
Summer program ended on Friday, August 14 and our Club members had an amazing time thanks to the coordinated and collaborative efforts of Program Director, Desirae O'Neill, Education Director, Sean O'Callaghan, and 16 outstanding Summer Youth Employees. Our "sweet 16" including Catherine Chinock Ayiku, Khyla Butler, Heidi Campos, Shanice Giles, Jayla Gilreath, Devin Johnson, Jadia Lewis, Sky Lewis, Marc-Anthony Marte, Abigal Moreno-Ortiz, Alexus Murphy, Jahrae O'Neill, Neri Romero, Anton Seaman, Makaela Vaughan, and Nyzia Vaughan, were instrumental in making this summer season a fun and educational experience for our kids. Sponsored by the Town of Oyster Bay, Summer Youth Employment program prepares teens for all aspects of career development from preparing for college to honing job search and interview skills to learning how to manage finances. Board member Christiane Traxler Leonardis, was instrumental in facilitating workshops which began in January. Approximately 30 teens participated with 16 being selected for the Summer Program Assistant positions. "We couldn't have been more pleased with our group of 16 SYE's this year," said Desirae O'Neill.
